Kaniz's Ramadan Fundraiser

Kaniz Ashrafi is raising money for Valerie Taylor Trust

Ramadan Deeds · 22 April 2022

The goal of the Valerie Taylor Trust is to financially contribute to the treatment, rehabilitation and reintegration into the community of disabled people in Bangladesh, particularly those in financial need. We also aim to assist with education of the public and relevant health care workers about the problems faced by disabled people and ways in which these difficulties can be overcome.

Story

Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), said,

“Whoever fulfils the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfil his needs; whoever removes the troubles of his brother, Allah will remove one of his troubles on the Day of Resurrection; and whoever covers up the fault of a Muslim, Allah will cover up his fault on the Day of Resurrection.” (Al-Bukhari & Muslim)

Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) gave disabled people a higher self-esteem, erased their sadness, misery & lack of confidence. He reminded them that “verily God does not look at your bodies nor to your faces but He looks at your heart.” (HR. Muslim)

His companion Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud, (who was also one of the best interpreters of the Quran), was a weak man with small physical structure. Once, Ibn Mas’ud climbed a tree, some companions laughed because they saw his tiny legs. The Prophet (p.b.u.h) stopped them and said: “What makes you laugh? For the legs of Ibn Mas’ud are going to be heavier on the scale on judgment day than the mountain of Uhud.”

The Prophet (p.b.u.h) wanted to teach the people not to mock one another, particularly when it comes to physical appearances. He reminded us that people are not defined by their disabilities, but rather by their actions & contributions to society.

“Zakah expenditures are only for the poor & for the needy & for those employed for it & for bringing hearts together [for Islam] & for freeing captives [or slaves] & for those in debt & for the cause of Allah & for the [stranded] traveller – an obligation [imposed] by Allah. Allah is Knowing & Wise.” Quran 9:60 ~Surah Tawbah

Thus, Zakat is given to one of 8 categories: The poor, the needy, those in debt, the wayfarer (traveller), those who strive in the way of Allah (swt), those whose hearts are to be reconciled, freeing those who are in captivity & those who distribute Zakat.

The principal of Zakat is supporting those who need it most to make their lives better. Islamic duty is to take care of all brothers & sisters by giving Zakat to provide vital necessities for them. Zakat is used to benefit those less fortunate than ourselves.

*Zakat can to split  across different causes, however one needs to ensure every donation is with the  intention of being for Zakat, otherwise it will not count.

You can also make Sadaqah donations!

Sadaqah is a voluntary act of charity that is wide-reaching, a form of monetary charity/ an act of kindness that can be performed in any amount, at any time of the year.

The Prophet (p.b.u.h)said:

“Sadaqah extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire.”(Tirmidhi)

“Shaitan threatens you with poverty & enjoins you to be niggardly, Allah promises you forgiveness from Himself & abundance; and Allah is ample-giving, knowing.” Qur’an 2:268~Surah Bakarah

Therefore by giving Sadaqah,  Shaitan’s intention to keep us in poverty and to keep us greedy is defied. It is  purification of  wealth & ensuring that needy people can have life’s basic necessities without struggle.

You can also make Lillah contributions!

Lillah translates to “for Allah”, meaning that it is any mode of voluntary charity given in the name of Allah. Lillah isn’t typically given to a person, but rather an institution such as a Mosque, hospital, or orphanage. Lillah donations are primarily used to contribute to the betterment of others, regardless of their religion.

Those in need are receiving the necessary help to elevate them from dire circumstances. At the same time, the distributors of this charitable aid are able to reap the benefits of displaying selfless acts of kindness from both a moral & religious perspective.

Your donations & contributions  will bring the joy of mobility & independence to disabled people, by providing them with a wheelchair.
