Breakthrough London to Cambridge Bike Ride 2010 · 25 July 2010 ·
Welcome to mine and Terry's Fundraising page for our charity cycle ride: London to Cambridge on 25th July. We are raising money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
We have been training since January and we were the mad fools cycling in the ice, snow and freezing temperatures. We had to take shelter on one ride when we couldn't see where were going because of the Blizzard conditions. Training continued and rides got longer to around 20miles, involving a well deserved stop at a local pub in Hemingford Abbots.
Terry, a few months ago bought some thin road tyres and since then there has been no stopping us. Not to be outdone I now have some. We recently experienced some hills whilst cycling on the Downs around the Needles on the Isle of Wight. We have also discovered some hills in Cambridgeshire so don't believe it when people say that Cambridgeshire is completely flat.
More recently our training has involved longer rides of at least 45miles. 1 of these routes involved cycling to Papworth, where we watched friends play tennis, onto Buckden where we found our hills , over to Grafham Water , returning home via Huntingdon and St Ives and down the guided bus way to Willingham.
On Saturday 26th June, we took the scenic route to Cottenham, then onto Histon and into Cambridge. We rode past a number of colleges but managed to avoid the new graduates in thier gowns and mytres, continued through to Comberton and found the hills into Toft and Bourn. We continued to Papworth onto St Ives and home past Needingworth and Bluntisham.
Less than a month to go now, we are hoping for good weater but not a heatwave.
