Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page on behalf of my lovely Mum, Ethel Scott, who is celebrating her 80th birthday this August.

As many of you will know, Dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2015.  Fortunately, as a result of the brilliant work by the excellent team at the Royal Surrey County hospital, Dad came through his surgery with flying colours and was told that the tumour had been completely removed with no radiotherapy afterwards.

It is because of this that we learnt first-hand that this kind of screening can have fantastic results and save lives if only it is used as early as possible.

It is a sad fact that 1 in 18 people will develop bowel cancer in their lifetime and it is the second leading cause of death from cancer. Regular bowel cancer screening has been shown to reduce the risk of dying from bowel cancer by 16% and if it is detected at the earliest stage, there is over a 90% chance of survival. These statistics make GUTS work vitally important and as a registered charity, they rely on donations online to continue. More details about G.U.T.S can be found on their website at www. gutsfbc.co.uk.

Mum and Dad have been married for 59 years and were childhood sweethearts for several years while they were still at school.  Mum counts herself so, so lucky that Dad got through the cancer scare so this is a charity that is very dear to her heart.  So as a birthday wish, Ethel is hoping that people will help her in supporting and raising funds for G.U.T.S, which is based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
