Story

Myself and Kai are running Chester Marathon on 3rd October to raise funds for The Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

My husband, Martin, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in December 2020, which was deemed to be "very treatable".  He completed a course of chemotherapy from January to March of this year and repeat scans showed that this had reduced the primary tumour sufficiently to make surgery possible.  However, in April we were told that, despite the chemotherapy being effective, the cancer had spread to multiple sites throughout Martin's pelvis and legs and was now incurable.

Less than six months from being told the cancer was treatable to being told Martin only had months left to live.

The team at the hospice will ensure that Martin lives as pain free and in as much comfort as possible, they will ensure he is cared for with dignity and compassion, and that our family are also supported through this time.

There are many charities that we could choose to support through our marathon fundraising, but right now the hospice is the one that is helping our family the most.

We thank you for taking the time to read our story and appreciate any donations to help support this essential charity.

Much love Karen & Kai xx
