This year I have decided to enter 'The Great North Run' in memory of Sarah Ashby who sadly lost her long 5 year battle with cancer on the 15th November 2009.  Sarah was a great inspiration to us all the way in which she handled her cancer and the treatment that came with it has had a lasting effect on all that knew her.

It is with this in mind that I am going to try and raise money for the charity that Sarah and her family Colin, Zoe and Heather supported, the Southend Chemo Unit.  Sarah spent many hours in the Chemo Unit and she always had such positive things to say about the treatment and the people she met there.  I know many other people as I am sure have you, who have been through similar treatment. It is now said that one in three people will get cancer during our lifetimes, a figure expected to rise to one in two by 2020, so lets try our best to help the people that are affected by this horrible disease. I am one of the lucky ones so it makes it all the more important for me to do this in memory of a very beautiful and courageous lady.
