Story
750km charity bike ride through the hills of Devon & Cornwall from Portsmouth.
Hello,
As some of you may know, we are planning a BIG charity bike ride, in memory of our amazing Karen Jenkinson, who we sadly lost on 10/12/20 due to breast cancer. The charity we have chosen for the money raised is ‘Breast Cancer Now’. This is a charity which Karen supported herself & we feel it would be a great charity to raise money for in memory of her!
Alternative route update...
We unfortunately can not do the ride through France which we had originally planned. Thanks to Covid & the travel restrictions getting too France & also travelling through, it just wouldn’t work at this time unfortunately.
However, we have not put all of this effort into our training for no reason. We have planned a much harder alternative route as promised. This new route will be in England, where hopefully by then, travelling will be much easier & more stop of points along the way will be accessible to us.
The route will start in Portsmouth, & follow the coast all the way down to lands end at the very bottom of the UK. From lands end we will then head back up the west side of the country, finishing at Karen’s favourite beach in the UK... Polezeath, North Cornwall. (Near Padstow). Although the distance of this route is shorter than before, the incline uphill riding is much more testing, 7,000m. Due to the extra hills, we estimate this ride will still take the full 7 days as planned.
We are planning on camping each night, this way we don’t need to rely on hotels, b&b’s. With a back up vehicle following behind us carrying tents & spares/tools for whatever we may need.
The route is roughly 750km. It has 7,000m of incline.
We are looking to do this ride in 7 days, (starting on 19th June) which would be around 110km per day.
I know at the end of the ride, a few of us will be staying at a lovely campsite karen used to love visiting. Have a bit of a celebration, a few days chilling out on the Sandy beaches, in the sun, beer in hand, just how karen would have wanted.
We currently have 10 riders who are up for the challenge.
We originally set out to raise £3,000 & that target was smashed within 14 hours! We then upped the target to £6,000 & the target was hit within 5 Days! We are now aiming to raise £7,500. So would hugely appreciate anything anyone can donate for this great cause.
We hope the money will go on to help other family’s, so maybe they won’t feel the pain which we do.
