Karl Wager Raising Money For The Hartlepool Hospice

Great North Run 2015 · 13 September 2015 ·
I'm doing the great north run in memory of Firefighter Richard Kelly.
Richy joined the fire brigade with me and pushed me through my training course kicking and screaming. He then joined Green Watch Hartlepool and it was a pleasure to serve with him. Without his ear to bend on the way home from our course or his encouragement on the way to another day of hell, I would not be doing the job I love today. Richys illness took everyone who knew him by surprise and he passed away just weeks after being diagnosed. He was a serving Firefighter right up until his last weeks and will be terribly missed by everyone who had the pleasure to work with him.
The hardest yet proudest moment of my career was when I was asked to be a pallbearer and carry a brother to his final place of rest. An honour that someone my age should not have to carry out.
The hospice provided Richy with first class care and gave his family the love and support they so desperately needed.
Also in the last year We have lost a top friend and a true gentleman in Jeremy Lakey I also run this race for him. Jez ran the great north run himself before he sadly passed so doing this seems something I have to do
28 years old and have had to put 2 mates in the ground due to the vile disease that is cancer. Not to mention it claiming the lives of countless family and family friends.
The Hospice really need every penny they can get to continue the fantastic care and support they have given and continue to give to thousands of local families.
