The Great North Air Ambulance Service keeps families together by saving lives. We provide critical care 365 days a year to the people of the North East, North Yorkshire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man.

Story

On the 2nd of October 2017 my dad, Dale Reed, was involved in a life changing accident whilst at work.

He was at work on a bio mass plant in Teesside when steel cladding fell off the building from 30 metres high and landed on top of him.

The GNAA doctor and paramedic crew were called and attended the scene where they worked on my dad for over an hour. They gave life saving treatment, performed CPR, gave him an on site blood transfusion, he was intubated and put into a coma on site due to the severity of his injuries.

He sustained 37 broken bones, breaking every bone in his back and neck, his jaw in 3 places, all of his ribs, his back chest bones, his right shoulder, his femur, shattered pelvis and an unrepairable hip. He was left with a C4 spinal chord injury, rendering him tetraplegic (paralysed from the neck down).

The doctor who treated him on site stated "he was the most poorly patient he had ever seen who still had a pulse" he was taken to James cook hospital in Middlesbrough where he spent 13 months on the spinal unit there.

He came home on the 31st October 2018 and we are now adapting to his way of life. Without the GNAA I don't believe my dad would have survived the accident, we can't thank them enough for giving him the chance to be here today with us all.

If anyone could donate any money what so ever to help this amazing charity continue doing what they're doing I will be forever greatful, they do miraculous work everyday.

Thank you.
