Sponsored walks and runs throughout February · 6 February 2021

The Birth Trauma Association supports families affected by traumatic childbirth. We also campaign to raise awareness of birth trauma and improve training of health professionals, as well as lobbying policymakers to improve care during and after childbirth.

Story

This February, I will be taking part in the Birth Trauma Association's 'Pramathon' by walking and running as much as I can. I will be going for two 5km runs or walks each week of February (kicked off week one with a 5km and a 7.5km run) and hope to manage a 10km run by the end of the month. Hoping Joanie will be up for joining me (in the running buggy or in the backpack for walks!) for some of my adventures.

This is a cause very close to my heart after experiencing a traumatic birth, and sustaining a lifelong injury, with a long mental and physical recovery period.

I was incredibly lucky to benefit from very good support after I had Joanie, and I worry so much for the mums who have given birth during the pandemic and may not be able to access the same care. This is why the work of the BTA is so important, now more than ever.

My physical recovery is finally at a point where I can run again (though not without a little help), so completing this challenge will mean a lot to me. 5 or 10km may not seem much after my previous marathon effort, but the short distance runs I have managed since having Joanie have been very mentally and physically challenging (far more so than anything pre-childbirth!).

I will be so grateful for any donations, and know the BTA will put them to very good use supporting women who really need their help.

Thank you!

Kate xx
