We fund care, campaigning and research to achieve a world free from MND

Story

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit my justgiving page.

In February 2004, my mum was diagnosed with motor neuron disease, a terrible, terminal wasting disease.

The first signs that there was something wrong was some numbness in her left leg, she called herself hop-a-long and blamed her back (that got the blame for most things!), but as things didn't get better she had a series of doctors appointments and was eventually diagnosed with MND. From then on, things seemed to move very quickly, and she want from struggling to walk to barely being able to move.

Some memories really stand out, like the first time I saw her fall, the time she was crying becuase she was thinking about how she wasn't going to be able to become a grandma but couldn't lift her hands to her face, and the first time she started to find it hard to breathe.

But what I remember most is how she smiled and laughed through it all. She started to refer to the house as the disabled zone, her feet as flippers (becuase they were swollen) and found it hilarious how dad managed to injure himself on almost every bit of equipment that she had. I am still amazed at her bravery and fighting spirit. We spent lots of time together as a family, and had a brilliant family holiday that summer, so I have some really special memories.

Shortly after we got home, as we all had to start going back to work and school, mum finally gave in and passed away on September 4th 2004, a week before her 54th birthday, with me by her side.

People with MND need so much support and care, the amount of equipment needed is astounding, and that's what I'm raising money for, to make sure that sufferers and their families have everything they need to make things as bearable as possible and to give them some treasured last memories, like I have. The money you donate will also help fund the research the MNDA are doing to hopefully one day find a cure for this devasting disease.

Mainly though, I am running it for mum, becuase it goes without saying that I miss her every single day.

So please sponsor me, as much as you can, your support really does mean a lot to me.

Right, now back to the training so I can try and finish faster than Katie Price.....
