Three Peaks Challenge · 7 September 2019

The What? Centre has been providing an essential advice and counselling service for young people for 30 years and its reputation grows year by year. Our Mission Statement is to provide a high quality, client centred service for young people mainly between the ages of 13 and 25. Over the years The Centre has provided a much-used advice service for local young people on a range of issue from sexual health, housing, employment and benefits. Our highest acclaim is our reputation with professionals such as GPs, CCGs, colleges and schools for our provision of therapeutic counselling services, which is provided by a range of qualified personnel. The Centre is BACP accredited. The need for this service emanates from a range of issues including physical and sexual abuse, drug abuse, domestic/family problems, exclusion from school, peer pressure and bereavement. Such issues can lead to depression, anxiety/stress, severe anger, loss of self-esteem/confidence, eating disorders, self-harm and thoughts - or even attempts - of suicide. The Centre is a registered charity and all funding is by way of grants, service level agreements and donations. However, demand far outstrips our funding so continually have to apply for funding and all donations are very gratefully received.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We (2 retired Doctors in our 60s) are attempting the Three Peaks Challenge in order to raise money for the charity The What? Centre, a Dudley & Stourbridge based advice centre  and counselling centre for young people between the ages of 13 - 25. This charity plugs the gaps that the NHS and Social Services leave through lack of funding & resources and provides essential and sometimes life-saving care for desperate teenagers and young adults. Any funds we raise will go towards practical help for homeless and lonely youngsters who require support with school/college issues as well as finding work, provision of food bank vouchers and legal help for those living on their own, having left care or unable to continue living with their families.

The gauntlet was thrown down by family members, and we realise that we don't look like mountaineers but we are training soooooo hard... so please support us.
