I began running last year purely as a personal challenge. I went to the running shop where they analysed the pattern of wear on the soles of my trainers. Apparently it clearly showed that I needed to get off the sofa more often. So from originally being unable to run without feeling ridiculous, I have gradually got to the stage where I can cover 10k relatively comfortably, albeit slowly.

It had never been my intention to run for sponsorship, since in the great scheme of things 10k is clearly no great shakes. But as the day has drawn nearer so many people have enquired which charity I am supporting that it feels foolish not to accept their kind offers. When I run on Sunday I will follow in the footsteps of a friend of Adam who is running the childrens' race on Saturday, raising money for Macmillan who are currently supporting his Grandad. I thought that in reaching my own personal goal I could perhaps also help Macmillan with their work.

I know we all receive a lot of requests like this but anything you can give will be most gratefully received by Macmillan.
