Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Recently engaged, we are bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘tying the knot’ later this year when we run the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon whilst tied at the ankles.

Ahead of our nuptials next year we will be running the 13.1mile route three-legged to raise money for African Promise.
Katharine’s brother, Charles, established the charity 10 years ago and has since been working tirelessly to improve the lives of thousands of school children in rural Kenya through educational programmes, nutritional schemes and improved sanitary facilities.
The charity serves a cluster of schools in the isolated Kasigau region of South East Kenya, supporting more than 2,600 disadvantaged children.Through our fundraising efforts, we hope to help improve the lives of even more young people by raising at least £10,000 towards the charity’s work.

Dickie ran the New York Marathon recently and I ran the Edinburgh half marathon a few years ago so we decided to add to the challenge of running a half marathon to encourage as many donations as possible for African Promise. We decided that a three-legged half marathon would definitely be a suitable challenge, and given that African Promise’s primary role is working with schools in rural Kenya, we have also decided to run wearing colouring pencil costumes!

Ideally, we would like to complete the half in around the 2-hour mark, but that may be a bit ambitious! I think we would both be pleased with something under 2hrs 30. Quite frankly, just doing it without falling over (or falling out…!) will be an achievement!
We are getting married in May next year, if we don’t drive each other mad before that running three legged for four months!
