London Winter Walk 2024 · 27 January 2024 ·
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I am raising money for Alzheimer's Society in memory of my Dad (Billy) who passed away in January 2020 having suffered with the disease for over 10 years!
In his last few years he received brilliant care at a home in Milton Keynes where staff supported him with his every need and then ultimately his end of life care. We visited Dad as often as we could and after having my daughter, Isla in August 2019 she was also able to go and meet him, albeit in hospital by then but she speaks about her grandad Billy who would have adored her. We want to keep his memory alive for her and her cousins and show that we can help by fundraising for charity so that hopefully one day other families don't have to go through what we did.
It is also so important to fundraise for the charity to help towards the invaluable support services they provide which Mum and Dad were both able to benefit from in such difficult and challenging times. Dad particularly enjoyed singing groups and socialising, enabling mum to have a well earned break at times! So many people are affected by dementia that almost everyone knows somebody with a family member suffering.
£115 could buy a years worth of weekly check-in calls for someone living with dementia via dementia connect. Every £50 will keep 312 people connected each day to Talking point, an online safe space.
Mum and I are taking part in the Winter 10km walk on 28th Jan in London and we need to raise as much as possible 3 weeks before the event to take part. I really appreciate any donation you are able to give, and don't forget to Gift Aid if you can!
