Some of you who know me may know that mental health is an issue particularly close to my heart, having struggled with mental illness for quite a few years when I was younger. I know first hand how isolating mental illness can be and how difficult it can be to speak to people you know about what you're going through. I know from experience as well that it is at night when things can become the most overwhelming- but that is also when most people are asleep! 

Now I am a university student, I am happy, recovered, and I have made it my aim to help others who struggle with mental illness. I have been volunteering with Nottingham Nightline for over a year and I have seen first hand how our service really really helps people. 

Approximately 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem each year and university students are particularly vulnerable to mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. Whilst services are available to students who may be struggling, there is a lack of provision for students who may be experiencing difficulties at night. We fill this gap for students at the University of Nottingham! We provide a  listening and information service for students and we are open every night of term from 7pm-8am to talk about anything at all that might be on your mind. Our service provides a safe space and listening ear for anybody who gets in contact with us- no problem is too big or too small. 

However, our service cannot run without funding and without it we cannot continue to grow and expand- to help even more people! 

We are therefore running a SuperHero Fun Run to raise money for our service, which is taking place on the 19th November! I will be braving the cold and (potentially rain) to run 5k around the ridiculously hilly University Park Campus dressed as a Superhero! 

I am not a runner. I have never been a runner! Especially not in a costume! This is a challenge wildly out of my comfort zone and so I would implore you to support me in this challenge and to help raise money for our essential service!!
