Story

In September 2020 whilst visiting my daughter Katherine in Gibraltar,  I was devastatingly diagnosed with metastatic kidney cancer - which had sadly spread to my lungs, liver and brain, resulting in a terminal diagnosis.

After spending 6 weeks in and out of hospital in Gibraltar and receiving radiotherapy in Malaga I returned back to the UK where I started chemotherapy treatment. Just over a week later I was told the chemotherapy wasn’t working and was given just days to live.

In February 2021, I was admitted to nightingale house for pain symptom management where they successfully managed to remove my syringe driver and stabilise my pain in under two weeks.

After I was discharged from nightingale house I went to live with my daughter Katherine and grandchildren. During this time I was still very much supported by nightingale house by receiving physiotherapy and complimentary therapies which improved my quality of life and was even able to go for days out with my grandchildren.

In May 2021 I was readmitted back to nightingale house for pain symptom management and I have been here ever since   . My aim now is to raise as much money as I can by having my hair shaved off here at the hospice on Wednesday 30th June 2021. I want to do this to give something back because I want to let all staff at Nightingale House know what angels they are from the housekeepers, cooks, nurses, health care support workers and anyone else I haven’t mentioned - they are all angels.

Please give generously every pound really does make a difference. It costs £10,000 to run the hospice for a day and I would like to do as much as I can to contribute to that amount.

Many thanks in advance for any donations and helping me achieve one of my last wishes. Lots of love Denise xxx

‘For over 25 years staff here at Nightingale House Hospice have created an environment that gives patients and their loved ones quality time to spend together. Not having to worry about the care a loved one receives, knowing they are in safe hands means every second spent together is dignified and peaceful. Without support such as yours, our specialist palliative care units wouldn’t be able to deliver such high standards’
