Story

Well, I'd almost forgotten about his page...I started it years ago, reached my target, raised my target, nearly reached that too...and then forgot all about it.
Until now!
I'm raising my target again, to £4000.
Every penny of that will go straight to the Community Foundation, to be used by the Young Musicians Fund, which is a fund I started back in 1997.
Each year we make an average of 15 grants to young musicians in the North East of England to help them explore and realise their musical potential.
This fund is one of the things I'm proudest of in my life - it supports young musicians in every genre - classical, pop, jazz and of course folk (we regularly pay for a place at the wonderful Folkworks Summer school for example)
Any money you can spare will be very gratefully received.
Thank you so much,
Kathryn

Hello everybody. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I started this page a couple of years ago and we raised enough money to send 4 young people to the totally fantastic Folkworks Summer School.

Now I want to set up an endowment fund which will mean that we can keep this going and have money to guarantee a funded place (at least one...hopefully more!) EVERY year.

I'm trying to raise money for the Young Musicians Fund, which I set up about 10 years ago and which is managed by the Community Foundation.

Specifically at the moment I'm trying to raise money for bursaries for young people to attend the Folkworks Summer Schools in Durham.

I've just come back from this year's Summer School and my determination to raise money for it has been renewed...it's such a brilliant week of music, song, dance and fun and I just can't bear the thought of any young musician being unable to go due to lack of funds.

Before going there I had announced that I would be teetotal for the whole week (a very big challenge for me!) and would be looking for sponsorship for it, which is when I originally set up this page.

Well - I'VE DONE IT

I got some cash sponsorship from tutors and students on the Youth Summer School too, which is included in the 'raised offline' figure. But one of the very nicest things that happened was that on the last day a group of students went busking in Durham for several hours...then presented me with the biggest, heaviest bag of money I've ever seen (nearly 5 kilos - I weighed it when I got home!) and asked me to put it towards my fundraising for a bursary next year. I was so touched by this that I ended up in tears, which embarrassed them all greatly!

I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated money to this, and particularly to those young musicians...who raised £290.82 with their busking. Totally brilliant. Thanks guys x
