Katie and Matt's cycle from End to End · 18 June 2022

L.A.A. is a rehoming centre for cats and dogs. Every year, we care for around 300 animals who are lost, abandoned, neglected, unwanted or relinquished because their owners can no longer look after them. Our vision is happy pets in responsible, loving homes. Thank you for your support.

Story

"On June 18th myself and my partner, Matt are going to attempt to cycle 1,000 miles from Lands End in Cornwall to John O' Groats in Scotland in 16 days. From buying my first road bike back in April 2021, to completing a few mini bike tours in-between, this is going to be the biggest cycling challenge to date for us both.

For those that know us best, know that we both love taking on endurance fitness challenges but even for us, this is going to be tough.

Our inspiration for this trip originates from my brother, James and my sister-in-law, Frances as they took on the same challenge last year during the summer of 2021. Dropping them off in Lands End, in the pouring rain, I vowed to myself I would never take on such a crazy challenge, but here we are...a year later and we are 4 weeks away from sitting on the same start line.

Again, for those of you who know me best, will also know that in October 2021 last year, I lost my best friend, Phoebe, aka Pheebz after 14 years with her. She might have been small and fury, she might not have ever spoken a single word to me and she might not have been human... but she was the best companion and the bestest friend I will have ever had.

When I took on this challenge, I always knew I wanted to do it for a charity and to us, choosing an animal rescue charity was perfect. It wasn't until I lost my dog, I truly understood the effects an animal can have on a persons life and so if we can try to improve the quality of life for even one animal, it'll be worth every single painful pedal.

We appreciate times are tough at the moment for everyone so if you can't donate to our cause, feel free to drop us a message to send us some luck and positivity instead. We would really appreciate it and we have a feeling we might need it :)

FYI- not doing it on a tandem.

Here's a little bit about the charity 'Animal Aid', who we have chosen as our charity,

"Leicester Animal Aid is a rescue and rehoming Centre for cats and dogs, based in Huncote, Leicestershire.Every year, we rescue and rehome up to 400 animals who are neglected, lost, abandoned or given up because their owners can no longer care for them. We can only help animals in need of forever homes thanks to the kindness and generosity of our supporters and fundraisers. Your donation could help buy essential items like a microchip for an animal, a warm and cosy bed or a veterinary health check and essential vaccinations."
