Story

I am going to swim the Solent on Sunday 14th August in aid of Samaritans of the Isle of Wight. The distance is about a mile and a quarter but the tides are very strong, so we are setting out from Hurst Castle on the mainland at 8.25am when the tide is slack, and will get to Colwell Bay on the Island about an hour later. The Freshwater Bay lifeboats, kayaks and rigid inflatable boats will accompany us on our way.

Isle of Wight Samaritans is a great cause. As part of the national Samaritans network it supports people from all over the UK, Ireland and beyond who are struggling to cope, including those who are suicidal, and is run entirely by volunteers. The charity has to find all its own funding and the Solent swim is its main annual fundraising event, without which they would struggle to stay afloat!

Donating through JustGiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me. Isle of Wight Samaritans get your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, JustGiving sorts out the Gift Aid.

On behalf of the charity I would greatly appreciate anything you can sponsor me! I'll be paying for my accommodation and transport myself, so all the money I raise will be going to the Isle of Wight Samaritans.

Many thanks
