I work for a local Swim school in Shefford, Swimshak Ltd. This ‘dream’ was founded by Pat Powell, her husband Alan and daughter Phillipa just 3 years ago.

2 years later Pat following the appearance of random bruising and a blood test at the doctors was admitted to hospital. The initial diagnoses was a treatable form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Unfortunately things didn't go Pat's way and despite every possible treatment, nothing seemed to combat the Disease.

On May 1st she was transferred to Addenbrookes Hospital, where the team tried everything to treat this very rare type of Blood Cancer (Refractory Lymphoplasmacytic Lymphoma). Sadly, after a very brave and determined
fight she passed away on Sunday 2nd July 2017 with Alan by her side.

Pat fought a tough battle remaining strong till the end. She’s left a massive hole in all the lives of her family and friends and is greatly missed by her ‘Swimshak family’.

Emma and myself are competing this challenge in memory of Pat and are raising funds to support WMUK (Waldenström’s Macroglobulinemia.) We aim to raise
money to assist with research into this rare disease in the hopes it can help other families in the future.

Thank you for your support in Pats memory
