Abby's Swimming Heroes · 15 September 2018
On Saturday 15th September 2018, Jessica, myself and a few other crazy people are intending to swim between Bournemouth and Boscombe Pier. Leaving around 9am, we will swim our way 1.4 miles in open water. I am normally the one holding the clip board or selling ticket, decided to join Jessica this time and get involved.
So the question on your lips is, why the hell are you attempting to do this??
Sadly, the answer is, that every year, across the South coast, around 220 families will receive the news that their child or teenager has cancer.
Imagine that......
Well that happened to our friends precious daughter Abby, who died on 29th May 2016, having been a patient on one of these wards since May 2013. She was a bright, sparkly, generous soul, much loved by her family and all those who were lucky enough to have met her.
As a charity, Abby's Heroes work specifically with the Children's Oncology Unit at both the Piam Brown Ward and the T.Y.A Teenage and Young Adult Ward at Southampton General Hospital. These two wards cover all patients, form the age of 1 day old to 24 yrs of age, from Poole to Chichester, and in a semi-circular area in between. At Abby's Heroes, we aim to provide a family with support, be that financial or practical, personalised to each families requirements. Giving people time to concentrate on their familiy, at the most unimaginably painfull time, by taking care of mortgages/rent, help with bills, buying equipment, or treating the family to a break, a chance to have some precious family time, are all covered by Abby's Heroes.
Be a hero, make a difference and do something for someone else. No matter how small, or large, any donation is welcomed with love and appreciation.
