The British Thyroid Foundation provides information and support to help people better understand and manage their condition. We also fund and support vital research into thyroid disease to improve treatments and outcomes for thyroid patients both now and in the future.

Story

The inaugural Tombs Family Half Marathon in celebration of life!

This is the 2nd year we'll be running a half marathon together as a family (now an annual tradition) which will be taking place on Sunday 29th August. Sadly, due to the current climate race day will be split around the world yet we're united in spirit and cause.

  • Sydney AU, - Brad & I
  • Stoke-on-Trent, UK - Dad, Sarah, Lee, Matt & Inna with support from Mum and Jack

This year, I am wishing to raise money to support the British Thyroid Foundation, a cause that is close to my heart. Anything that you feel you can give to support would be greatly appreciated!

I am running because I can. For those who can no longer. And to provide inspiration for those who need it.

Thank you, Kate x

At just 27 years old, I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer out of the blue. The end of August marks 3 years since then following life-saving surgery & treatment to remove the organ and associated disease.

Now, I am thankfully healthy and whole. Embracing no thyroid life, celebrating all that I am, my body's miraculous ability to heal, and knowing that we can all do hard things.

As such, No Thyroid? No Problem! is now my
motto. Born from life's greatest challenge, crafted into a soul mission to prove that a life of no limits is possible for my fellow thyroid-less thrivers.

Let's raise some money to support those who need help navigating
associated chronic conditions and provide inspiration along the way.

A few statistics about Thyroid & Thyroid Cancer:

  1. The thyroid gland is a vital hormone gland playing a major role in the metabolism, growth & development of the human body.
  2. It is essentially the engine that keeps your body running, regulating everything from your breathing, heart rate, muscle strength, body temperature, and more.
  3. Your thyroid is so small yet so important that you are unable to live without it and without one, you require medicine to replace those hormones for life.
  4. There are around 3,700 new thyroid cancer cases in the UK every year, that's 10 every day (2015-2017 stats.
  5. It is the 2nd most common cancer in young adults, (15-30 years old) particularly prevalent in young females.
