Katio's 3 Peaks 24 Hr Challenge September 10th 2013 Page

Three Peaks 24 hr Challenge · 1 July 2013
I know I must be crazy to do this especially with my dodgy knees but I believe OneSight does tremendous work and I am honoured to be able to help them achieve their mission by raising money for them. Having worked in optics for over 20 years I appreciate how precious our vision is and how life changing glasses can be. Once I learnt about the work that the Luxottica foundation do I knew I wanted to help.
Having successfully completed two London marathons in the past I set myself a greater challenge to complete the three peaks in 24hrs.
The challenge is to complete the ascent and descent of the highest peaks in Scotland – Ben Nevis, England – Scafell Pike and Wales – Snowdon within a 24 hour period.
Stage 1 starts with Ben Nevis, Scotland
This challenge is the hardest with a total of 10 miles to be covered and as the base is at sea level by far the highest vertical gain with a total of 1352 metres.
Stage 2 is Scafell Pike, England
This peak is a total of 6 miles with a total ascent of 989 metres.
Stage 3 Snowdon, Wales is the final peak.
This is a total of 7 miles and total ascent of 723 metres. The challenge will be testing our physical and mental endurance to successfully complete the challenge in 24hrs. Our trek is not limited to climbing the peaks but travelling from peak to peak across a great distance albeit by coach.
The money you donate will support OneSight's mission to restore and preserve clear vision for the over 284 million adults and children who suffer worldwide from poor vision.
It is not simply providing glasses to those in need but to train local volunteers to provide quality eye care and continue the great work that has been achieved helping millions of people in need around the world.
