13.1 miles with Team Charlie

London Landmarks Half Marathon 2019 · 24 March 2019 ·
To my dear friends and family,
The cause that touched my heart and the hearts of so many around the world in 2017 is that of little baby Charlie Gard. As you probably know Charlie battled bravely with the degenerative disease called mitochondrial depletion syndrome, but sadly passed away on July 28th 2017, just before his first birthday.
I followed this story intensely every day in the news and it made me so sad, but sparked a feeling of 'what can I do, a complete stranger, to help support this family and honour Charlie's legacy?'. My answer- run for him and help raise awareness!
I am running in this year's London Landmarks Half marathon on March 24th for The Charlie Gard Foundation, a phenomenal charity, founded by his parents, dedicated to fighting mitochondrial disease. It aims to support those with the condition and their families, as well as investing in pioneering research with experts in the field to find the best possible treatments and offer the best chance in finding that elusive cure.
I strongly believe that if you have a passion or a hobby that can ultimately help make a difference to others, grab it with both hands and use it wisely. For me that means putting on my trainers and pounding the streets to do what I can to support those important causes which shape our world.
