Nunhead Jumble Trail · 11 June 2022

SDCAS aims to relieve poverty and distress among asylum seekers and refugees in the London Borough of Southwark. Since the start of the pandemic, SDCAS has been providing urgent services including a weekly food bank, deliveries, and a remote advice service. Thank you for supporting our vital work.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Many asylum seekers have endured significant hardship in making their journeys here, forced to leave behind homes, communities, friends and members of their
families, leaving them with feelings of loss, grief and trauma.  Some will have been involved in conflict and/or witnessed violence and death, of family, friends or neighbours, and some will have been subjected to acts of torture.

Once here, the inexcusable delays in processing people’s asylum claims cause much distress and anxiety, leaving people with uncertainty about the future and an inability to settle, for months and usually for years.  The hostile environment is wrong - we must challenge it and do what we can to support people who become its victims.

I have seen first hand the invaluable support SDCAS provides on a small budget, giving a lifeline to asylum seekers and refugees keeping them from destitution and offering them a welcoming hand to help relieve isolation and fear.  A couple of hot meals a week, links to health services, legal advice, advice on housing and money, support around mental health, advocacy support - it's all so essential.

Every penny of your donation goes directly to SDCAS to enable them to continue their work. Thank you!
