Epilepsy Action Half Marathon Blackpool · 24 April 2016

Epilepsy Action is creating a world without limits for everyone affected by epilepsy, connecting people with others, and providing support and information you can trust. We’re calling out the misunderstanding, prejudice and barriers that stop people with epilepsy living their best life.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In the UK, 600,000 or one in every 103 people has epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological condition and every day in the UK, 87 people are diagnosed with epilepsy.

Over the past several years I have seen my younger sister Eliesha go through different stages of Epilepsy which has been truly heartbreaking and is a life long diagnosis.

Even with today's medication, epilepsy CANNOT be cured. Epilepsy is a chronic medial problem that for many people can be successfully treated. Unfortunately, treatment doesn't work for everyone. At least 1 million people in the U.S. alone have uncontrollable epilepsy. There is still an urgent need for more research, better treatments and a cure.

At 21 years old Eliesha is learning how to adapt her life whilst trying to control her epileptic seizures through medication. In result this makes a lot of tasks very difficult and also prevents her from doing things in life which many of us without an epileptic condition would take for granted.

These are things such as: being able to drive, being well enough to have children, relying on our memory, being well enough to work, drinking alcohol and engaging in leisure activities.

Previous to my sister being diagnosed with Epilepsy I didn't understand much about the condition, how many people it effected or how serious and devastating it can be.

I would like to raise awareness of Epilepsy so that we can all learn what to do if we are present whilst somebody like my sister has a seizure. Those moments are crucial. The more of us that are aware of how to support someone during a sezuire, the more support we can give and even live's we can save!

The more awareness of epilepsy fist aid, the more comfort family's can have whom worry about their loved ones.

I am hoping to raise as much money as possible to donate to charity to support research and to support Epilepsy Action.

I would really appreciate any donations and would also kindly ask you to take five minuites of your time to watch the following video. This video gives example of different types of seizures and how support someone suffering with one:
