WHAT! You’re going to Bolivia?!
Yep, I am headed out to Bolivia with Tearfund for 10 weeks from the 15 April until 25 June. It is through the ICS Scheme, that myself and a team of 16-25 year olds are travelling to this part of South America to join with Bolivian ICS volunteers. Very exciting.
Tell us more please!
Well, ICS is a government funded program. It’s aim is to “Harness the potential, energy and commitment of young people. To fight poverty by bringing about project impact, volunteer personal development and active citizenship”. I chose to go through the partner- ‘Tearfund’ because of their belief in equipping those in spiritual and material deprivation to get themselves out of poverty, with the local church as a catalyst for this change. I am keen to contribute in whichever way I can overseas and I believe that the experience will bring me something challenging, culturally enriching and very eye-opening.
Where will you be going Kayley?
My placement is in “Fortin de Niño” which is a children’s centre in a rural community just outside of Cochabamba. Many of the children are neglected by their parents for days at a time, so the aim is to prevent a resulting gangs, drugs or alcohol culture.
We will be working in partnership with local churches and in country volunteers to provide computer training, English lessons, sports fun and drugs/ alcohol awareness workshops. Read more at http://dft.ba/-84xz.
How are you fundraising?
With a limited amount of time to go, the next few weeks will bring: social events, lots of babysitting, a few cake sales and much more!
Where does my money go?
The money raised will not directly support me but will be added to a fund that allows the ICS scheme to take place which in turn increases the impact of overseas volunteer work (including supporting our counterparts abroad and helping the projects we are placed in).
THANKYOU VERY MUCH...From a very eager, excited & ecstatic Kayley! Every penny you donate is much appreciated and I am so grateful for your support.
