You might have heard I have signed up for Steps 4 Sight; a virtual event organised by Fighting Blindness in which participants are completing half- (21km) or full (42km) marathons over the course of June. 

Fighting Blindness is a patient-led charity with a vision to cure blindness, support people living with sight loss and empower patients. They provide professional counselling and therapeutic services for individuals and families living with vision impairment and blindness. They advocate for equity of access to timely and appropriate diagnosis, healthcare, therapies and support services and, through education and information provision, they work to empower the 247,000 children and adults in Ireland who are blind or visually impaired.

COVID-19 has had a resounding effect on charities the world over. Social distancing and other countermeasures aimed at keeping us safe have unfortunately had a significant effect at what is an important time of the year for charities in terms of fund-raising. Many events which were planned in the summer months have now been cancelled, and consequently this will have financial impact on the structures, services, and research they provide for those in need. 

As such, I am hoping to complete the full marathon in one session at the end of the month and contribute in a small way.

I'm acutely aware COVID-19 has effected everyone in many ways, and there are many charities out there in need of support right now so any donation is greatly appreciated.
