Story

Hi, thanks for visiting my page. I really appreciate all your  support and thank you for any donations. Those of you who know me will know about my cancer story and running the marathon was on my bucket list!  I´m lucky enough to have survived my ordeal and prove to other cancer survivors that dreams really do come true.

Every year I watch the London Marathon on TV and think I´d love to do it.  After being diagnosed with metastatic cancer 2013 I thought it was a pipe dream that would never happen, but never gate up hope.
Since being in remission I thought I would enter and
try to raise some money for charity.  It was with excitement and a feeling of terror that I found out I´d been accepted to run for The Kent Association for the Blind KAB which is a charity close to my heart and personally touches my family.  Was I really up to this I asked myself!  My lungs don´t work properly due to so much radiotherapy, my bones are weak due to so much chemotherapy, what was I taking on !!!

So here I am - I´m unfit, fat, forty six year old facing a huge personal challenge.  I´m hoping to show myself, cancer survivors, and anyone else who will listen that there is light at the end of the tunnel, you can fulfill your dreams!  If you want something bad enough, you stay positive, you can do it!  You can beat it!  I can get fit enough in 26 weeks to complete the best marathon in the world (I would say this as I haven´t done any others!).  I chose The Kent Association for the Blind to support as they work they do is amazing.  I´ve been very lucky that neither myself or immediate family have had to use this charity, but my inspiration is seeing the great things this charity has done for partially sighted people in Kent.

Kent Association for the Blind is a Kent based charity helping blind and partially sighted people of all ages live safe and independent lives.  In most cases when people lose their sight later in life, they lose their independence and so become very depressed.  KAB have their own counselor that helps with this to all the family not just the patient.  Kent Associate are a life line and offer several services to help visually impaired people of all ages including children and special needs, live as normal life as possible.  They have a fantastic rehabilitation team that assess and help people live safely in their home and train people ho w to use a white cane in order to become more mobile.  They also train blind and visually impaired people how to use the latest technology including computers and mobile phones, allowing them to be able to get a job or further their career.  A recent survey was carried out and people said that our of all our senses 95% fear of losing their eyesight the most!  Please help me raise as much money as possible to enable Ken Association for the Blind continue their essential work, enabling them to help over 11,000 people across Kent.  Thank You !

I am running this marathon not just for KAB, but for you, me, your mum, dad, sister, aunt, uncle and friend.  We can all feed off someone doing something positive.

To help boost my fundraising for this charity, and to help inspire people, I will dedicate one of my 26 miles to your loved one and will have these printed onto my running top.  All I ask for in return is a minimum 10 pounds donation per number (preferably via my just giving page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kelliewhitby) If you would like to do this then please private message me with the number you would like and the name you would like printed on the T shirt (please let me know if you do not want this on Facebook and I will substitute the name on Facebook for unavailable when updating this page).

Once I have confirmed you number then please visit my sponsorship page or arrange payment with myself.  I will do the requests in order and message you back if your chosen number is unavailable.

This will be my inspiration when the going gets tough.

Well I´m now half way through my journey and thank you to everyone who has sponsored me. the next few weeks are going to be tough, but I´m on plan!
