Most of you guys will remember I took part in the 2016 Tour de Sez when we cycled nearly 700 miles from St Malo in Brittany to Bilbao in Spain...pure madness for a non cycling pensioner.....

So now in my 70th year what have I done? “I’ve been and gone and done it again!” 

I’ve signed up for the 2018 Tour de Sez - all in aid of the Sarah Groves Foundation - cycling between 750 and 800 miles from St Malo, through France, Belgium, Germany and Holland ending in Amsterdam.

Now the precise route and overnight hotel accommodation has been booked, I am told the first full day on 8th September is a "monster" - 115 miles and a frightening degree of elevation. Survive that and and we go straight into the second full day which makes the day before seem like a walk in the park - 125 miles and even more elevation....... what a way to start. The following days are basically 100 miles a day but as we move towards Belgium, Germany and Holland the road surfaces improve and the terrain is much more gentle.

Hopefully arriving safely in Amsterdam on the evening of the 14th, the group flies/drives back to Rennes on the 15th and on the following morning we take the gentle 60 mile ride back to the ferry terminal in St Malo and ultimately back to Guernsey by Sunday evening.

So what is the Sarah Groves Foundation?

On 6 April 2013 Sarah Groves was tragically murdered on a houseboat in Kashmir. 

Due to Sarah's insatiable love of life, together with her desire to make a change in the world, and her determination to help as many people as she could, the Sarah Groves Foundation has been set up in Guernsey as a Charitable Trust. It focuses on Sarah's inspirations and aspirations, which came from art, children, adventure, and fitness. The fund is continuing Sarah's legacy, which is all about love, helping others, and achieving ones dreams.
