Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I haven’t done a proper challenge since Mongolia in 2019, so I thought it was about time to get back out there.

The pandemic put paid to my tentative plans for a 2021 runout. I’ve had to keep my hand in with a selection of virtual events (with medals!) which took me - in my mind - to places like Cumbria, Snowdonia, Connemara, London, Vancouver and New York, without actually leaving the fields and roads of North Herts and South Bedfordshire.

So I’ve booked myself a trip to the Arctic in early June to take part in the World’s most northerly permanent land based marathon.

It’s based on Spitsbergen, which is part of the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, where the polar bears apparently outnumber the people.

It will be during the polar summer, so hopefully the 24 hours of daylight means that the guards with rifles around the route will easily spot any wildlife before it gets too close!

Definitely not expecting a PB (Personal Best nor Polar Bear) but it will be great to run a full marathon of 26.2 miles with other people again after all this time.

A lot of very kind supporters have helped me raise funds over the years and I really hope that now things seem to be calming down a bit on the Covid front you won’t mind me returning to the well of your generosity and tapping you up for a donation to the cause. I’d be incredibly grateful.

Once again I’m going to run in support of the wonderful Prader-Willi Syndrome Association UK who continue to support and inspire our family's attempts to deliver the best possible care for our now nearly 12 year old foster daughter. They really do deserve every penny you're prepared to donate.

Prader-Willi Syndrome is a chromosome disorder which causes a wide range of physical, mental and emotional symptoms. Its defining characteristic is a constant feeling of hunger which can never be satisfied no matter how much the sufferer consumes.

Thank you as always.
