Story

In September I plan to do the swimathon for Cancer Research Uk….2.5K hopefully all in one go (or my back up plan is I have the option to do it over a few days)

8 years ago a merry little bunch of us did a swimathon, some delicious people I had the privilege to work with, roll on to today and a lot has changed, my story has progressed and is very different from those days.

8 years ago mum was sitting in the stalls cheering me along with others of my family, she was going through her chemo for Pacreatic cancer, shoulder and arm in a sling as she’d broken it (falling over because she was talking so much and not looking where she was going 🤦🏻‍♀️) and a huge smile on her face loving the buzz in the place. Sadly she died three months later but not without putting up a fight.

8yrs later I’ve decided I needed to give myself a challenge and just do something, do something for mum, and a challenge it will be, fibromyalgia has become a part of my journey and sadly robbed the normality of day to day life. Every day can be different, you just don’t know how you are going to be but I’ve decided I won’t let it stop me and I will finish this challenge one way or another it may just look slightly different than I want it to. So in September I’m gonna try and swim 125 lengths. Please don’t feel you have to sponsor me but please do have a look at the link for the pancreatic cancer awareness and the signs just to keep in mind, sadly this cancer is usually detected too late to have a successful treatment outcome.

Around 2,100 Marie Curie Nurses work day and night, in peoples homes all over the UK, providing hands-on care to people when they need it most.On 10-12 September, over 21,000 swimmers will be heading to over 300 pools across the UK to raise money for our two amazing charity partners. Together we can really make a difference. We invite our swimmers to tell their story to help spread awareness and raise vital funds for these two incredible causes.
