Story
I DID IT - I cycled 214 miles from London Tower Bridge to the Eiffel Tower In Paris, arrived 1:00pm Saturday.
I climbed 9800 feet and found out the meaning of “no pain, no gain”! and burnt some 13,000 calories whilst riding.
We had some laughs along the way, but had to dig deep to overcome both the physical and mental challenges particularly on the steeper climbs.
Many thanks to all who have been able to support me by donating to the NSPCC, which will make a real difference to vulnerable children. Kevin
Previous updates -Saturday 7th sept 09:30 - Left Marines yesterday morning and got to versailles on outskirts of Paris, 40 miles which proved a real challenge, luckily the Plateau wasn't as as bad as expected due to low winds, we then passed through old Royal Hunting Forests and descended to outer Paris, good day overall but we were all exhausted at the end.just heading off on last section now, and will be at the Eiffell Tower by lunch time, only 11 miles to go - !!!!!HORAHWednesday 4th Sept 17:00 - Tuesday we did 79 miles from Tower Bridge to Newhaven, at a average speed of just over ten miles a hour. The last 30 miles of hills over the South Downs to Brighton, and then the Cliff road onto Newhaven took its toll on us and we were all totally exhausted when we got to our Hotel just after 6, as well as a bit tender in places. The hills on the last 5 miles would be a challenge at anytime, but at the end of what we had already done, all of us agree we were starting to doubt if we had taken on too much.Alex reckons he went to his room and serviced his bike that night before lights out, but Andy and I don't believe him.Anyway a early night served us well, and we got the ferry this morning, and in France at 3 pm and then onto the Avenue Verte cycle track just outside Dieppe with did 35 miles to our Hotel in Forges for tonight.Thursday 5th Sept. We set off this morning , still with some aches and tender spots from Forges Les Eaux at just after 9.With 50 miles to go to tonight's stop in Marines, it's hilly with a long high Plateau to cross, so we are hoping for no headwinds,We had the brilliant idea of washing our cycling tops last night in our rooms, and drying them overnight, so setting off in damp tops this morning.
So all going more or less to plan so far, and our thanks to you all for your encouragement and generous support.
Our team ( myself, Alex and Andy) are covering our own expenses, with some support from our company, TYCO / ADT Fire and Security, and every penny of donations you give will go direct to the NSPCC.
In return I give you my total commitment to cycling approximately 200 miles in wind, rain (hopefully not) or sunshine, just us and our bikes with what we can carry with us.
Thanks for reading this, and if you are able to support my charity, the NSPCC by donating on the link above or texting - Kevc63 and £?? to 70070 I will really appreciate it, but even if you are not able to support us with a donation, please keep checking this website for updates on our progress and I will keep you posted.
Many thanks
Kevin
