Trócaire is the official overseas development agency of the Catholic Church in Ireland. We were set up in 1973 to supports individuals and communities in over 20 developing countries to live with independence & dignity. In Ireland, we raise awareness about the root causes of poverty and inequality.

Story

I am running this year's Belfast Marathon (my first ever), and I am also raising funds for Trócaire. I've had the enormous privilege of working with Trócaire for the last 16 years, and throughout that, I've seen how small amounts donated by people here in Ireland can make a very big difference in the lives of some of the poorest and oppressed people in the world. The work of Trócaire not only addresses meeting people's basic needs, but critically, it is also about working in solidarity and cooperation with communities to overturn injustices, hold those in power accountable for their actions, and ensure human rights are respected. This work is driven by local communities, who show enormous courage and bravery in their struggle for justice, often in the face of massive barriers.
