Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In July 2007 I completed the Raid Pyrenean, a very demanding cycling challenge. Through the generous donations of many friends that ride raised £1200 for the Mercy Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.
July 16th, 100% success. Pedalled the last km of the 531km the Tour de France riders rode in the Pyrenees; climbed 12,000 metres (photos to follow) and to date have raised £1,510. Now, how is this for a poetic ending? I only mentioned my fundraising in passing to a couple of other riders, but without my knowledge one of them passed the hat round for loose change and presented me with 50€, taking my total to exactly my £1,500 target.
The Mercy Centre works to help the children and communities of the many slums of Bangkok. The centre builds and operates schools, orphanages and a hospice. It offers protection and shelter for street children and orphans and combats the AIDS crisis. Through standing with the poor, working in the slums, offering and promoting education the centre provides hope and a future for the poor of Bangkok.
The work and achievements of the Mercy Centre are an inspiration; certainly an inspiration to help me over those 2,000 metres climbs. Today, more then ever the Centre needs financial support.
