Hi everyone, myself and Phil Carr are doing the 62 miles of Manchester to Blackpool bike ride for the Societi charity for Kawasaki’s disease, my nephew Jake, who’s in our picture above, had a close call with this disease when he was very young, luckily for us he got through it and is now 9 years old, it would be great if you could help us raise our 500 pounds target, but it would be totally amazing and awesome if we could double that figure to 1000 pounds!!!! Thanks you again for your support
From my sister in law Andrea ”This is a disease we all need to be aware of...
We took our 7month old son Jake to hospital as he wasnt well at all. His body was covered in a rash and he was crying consantly obviously in pain...We were told he was suffering with a viral infection as some of his symptoms would suggest this and sent back home to come back in 2 weeks if his symptoms persisted. A few hours later our sons condition worsened... we took him back to hospital...his body now swelling! Again we were told he had a nasty viral infection and not to worry and to take him back home. Only for us demanding a second opinion knowing there was something more wrong than just a viral infection did we get to see a specialist (by chance) who on inspection wasted no time at all and immediately put our son into an ambulance and transferred him to a children's hospital. It was Kawasaki...If it wasnt for the specialist having 'some' knowledge of the disease and signs to watch out for our son may not have lived... his hands and feet were red raw, his tongue was red, his body ballooned, skin coming off his hands and feet, rash all over his body. Luckily after spending a week in hospital having the correct treatment to fight this horrific disease our son had recovered.....
We were told to come back every 3 month for a year to have his heart checked as if not caught early children can be left with a hole in their heart, but because of our sheer determination we caught this disease early enough that his heart was healthy and he still to this day has no problems..! we are the lucky ones... not so many get diagnosed so early and is missed so frequently!
Jake is now a happy healthy 9 year old living life as he should and we thank our lucky stars every day that we persisted in getting that second opinion.
I hope the Kawasaki campaign gets the attention and funding it so desperately needs as more research and funding is needed into understanding this horrific disease more closely to help save so many more children's lives. I now know this disease isn't so rare after-all and have come across so many other parents who have also had children suffer this horrific disease. The more attention this gets the more people will be aware... know the signs and lets make it happen. Spread the word, like or share.... lets give this the attention it deserves. It helped save our child... lets see how many more children we can save! “
