Story
Hi, my name is Kevin Makwikila, I am a Fitness Trainer for a private gym in a corporate company. I am here to today to speak about my experience with the charity Alone in London. In 2013, I was homeless and staying in three different places whilst trying to hold down my job. I was in desperate need of help and that’s were Alone in London came in!
I found out about Alone in London via the internet, I called them up and arranged to come in to meet Sam. On our first meeting, we went through an introductory assessment, fortunately for me; Sam notified me that the Shepherdess Walk Scheme was about to Start but could not promise anything.
Four months later, the charity had found a house for me to move into. In the pass two years, Alone in London has played a great part in my life, not only has the charity found me a place to live, but have put me through various training programmes to benefit my career.
I was also provided with counselling through the Mind Connect service, which has been one of the most important things Alone in London has done for me, as I needed the emotional support to deal with everything I was going through at that time. The sessions helped alleviate my anxiety, as well as improve my self-esteem. I am forever grateful for the help and support the charity has provided me with, I would have been lost without them.
I feel now is the time for me to give back to the charity that has helped me so much during my difficult time. I would like to raise awareness about homelessness in the youth and all the work the charity has does, therefore I have decided to do a skydiving event in order to raise money for the charity. I would really appreciate it if people could donate money and sponsor me.
Christmas is an amazing time of the year, celebrating with your loved ones, but unfortunately, this isn’t the case for everyone, there are many young people who will be spending Christmas on the streets. Your contribution could help give these vulnerable youngsters some hope and help them on their way, so please dig deep and donate.
