As you may or may not know, I am quite keen at swimming in open water of all kinds, be it the sea, the ocean, local rivers, rowing lakes or the good old humble swimming pool. 

Anyway, it turns out there's a race in the Amsterdam canals this year in September so I am hoping to have a good crack at it and not be attacked by swimming rats or contract some hideous disease that makes half my face fall off. The race is just over 2km, but I am going to be pushing hard to see where I fare against some seasoned swimmers (i.e light people who don't have 116kg to drag through the water). 

I should also point out that I will be in Speedos and not in a wetsuit, as they do not record the finishing times of wetsuit participants.
