Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

As most of you are aware at Keytek™ we host and take part in various charity events raising money for many worthy causes throughout each year.  Well this year will be no exception………..the gauntlet has been laid down and as part of the collective fundraising effort, on Sunday 30th September, we will be taking part in the ‘Bath to Bournemouth Bike Ride’...... Yes, you read correctly....Bath to Bournemouth!

For those of you who are unaware of this event, this will be the second year of the ‘British Heart Foundation (BHF), Bath to Bournemouth Ride’ raising vitally needed funds for the BHF ‘Mending Broken Hearts Appeal’, which this year is hoping to raise over £37,000 from this particularly worthy event.

The bike ride itself is an ‘80 mile’ road ride starting in the historical City of Bath, going past the lions and monkeys of Longleat Safari Park, through the villages of Wiltshire and Dorset and finally crossing the finish line in Kings Park, Bournemouth.

Although the route itself passes through some very picturesque areas, be under no illusions, this will be no walk (or ride) in the park and will require a substantial amount of training before hand!

Please dig as deep as you can to support us.  Not only will it give us the motivational boost needed whilst training and to cover the 80 miles on the day, but more importantly you will be supporting an  extremely worthwhile charity helping to raise vital funds.

A personal note from Eddie

No doubt we all know someone close to us who has suffered from one of the many kinds of heart disorder which this particular and very worthy charity supports. One of the motivating factors for Gary, Chris and myself to take part in this event is, as some of you may already know, my little boy Louis was born last summer with a heart defect called supraventricular tachiadary or SVT.

This particular condition is when a heart does not possess the ability to sustain a regular heart rhythm which can lead to complications including heart failure which Louis suffered last autumn. The level of support and expertise he has, and continues to receive, from the hospitals, doctors and nurses is extraordinary and extremely humbling for those of us who take our good health for granted. In Louis’s particular case, whilst he remains reliant on drugs for his heart stability he has been able to regain his health and continues to grow and enjoy his young life as an ordinary infant. In time he may either grow out of SVT or when he is older undergo an operation to potentially correct the malfunction his heart has. It is a very real possibility that we may have lost Louis last year and whilst he was critical for a while his recovery and on-going health is purely down to the expert care and treatment he has received; others we met during that difficult time were not so lucky and we found it very distressing.

The British Heart Foundation directly funds both research and treatments into this area and represents a very small way for myself and others to put a bit back into the system for which we are all so lucky to have supporting us in this country. I will certainly not be needing any further motivation to get up some of those hills along this ride.
