Kieran does Beefy's Big SriLankan Walk

Beefy's Big Srilanka Walk · 1 November 2013
As some of you may or may not know, I’ve hit the dreaded 30s (good few years back!). My metabolism isn’t what it was and unfortunately my waistline is suffering the consequences.
I’ve finally decided to do some exercise and go for a walk. Not any walk for that matter. A 160 mile walk through Sri Lanka. A walk with the likes of Ian Botham and other cricketing greats such as Steve Waugh, Allan Border, Saurav Ganguli, Sunil Gvasker, Muttiah Muralitharan, Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara to name a few.
This walk will be raising money for a very worthy cause. My country of origin, Sri Lanka, was blighted by a civil war which lasted over 25 years taking thousands of lives and forcing many Sri Lankans such as myself to leave the country.
One of the worst affected areas in Sri Lanka, a region called Vanni located in the north has millions of issues yet to resolve.
Puthukudiyiruppu (PTK) in Mullaithivu was the last functioning hospital in theVanni (northern Sri Lanka) up the end of the war in May 2009. Badly damaged, it has only been possible to reopen part of it with only 8 beds and the barest minimum of facilities. The lack of ward space means many patients have to either sleep on the floor or forced to travel over a hundred miles to nearest hospital in far away Kilinochichi or Tricomalee.
The hospital desperately needs to build two wards (male & female) and equip them with life saving medical equipment e.g. Cardiac Monitor, Ultra-sound scanner etc. Building and equipping one ward would cost £31,000.
Serendip, and Assist Resettlement & Renaissance, are trying to raise this money so that the lives of a poor and blighted people can be improved.
Please dig deep and donate generously to this vital project.
