The Southmead Project provides free specialist counselling and support for survivors of abuse and addiction across Bristol and surrounding areas.

Story

As some of you may know (anyone that's spoken to me in the last 2 months), I managed to qualify for the age group Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Taupo NZ on the 29th November 2020.

My good friend Nick Tuftnell works at a local charity to me in North West Bristol, The Southmead Project.

Having known Nick for a while and heard about the much needed and impactful work he does I'd like to use this huge opportunity to raise awareness and funds for his charity.

"The Southmead Project is a registered charity that provides long-term counselling for adults that have experienced abuse. It also has specialist counselling for adults addicted to drugs or alcohol because of the trauma they have experienced.

Alongside counselling, it offers group support through its Family Support Group (for people that support loved ones with an addiction), pre-counselling and post-counselling groups.

In the community, it runs projects for survivors of abuse to help build their self-esteem, confidence, resilience and peer support networks".

The Southmead Project rely on charitable donations to keep doing their work. They are working hard to reduce waiting times for clients but demand for the service is very high. As such, anything you can afford really does go a long way to helping transform clients' lives.

Anything you can give would be incredibly appreciated. All proceeds will go to The Southmead Project, no money raised will be used to fund my trip.

I'll keep you posted throughout the year with various challenges I'll be completing in preparation!
