Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My story with dementia started when I was 14 years old and my great nan suddenly saw me as her Dad. This was not only upsetting for me but also very confusing. I knew very little about dementia and if I knew then what i know now, I know I could have made her quality of life a lot better. As a family, we tried to cope but eventually succumb to the fact we couldnt manage and she went into care. This was not a positive experience. Subsequent to this, my other 2 great nans have been diagnosed with dementia and so has other family members so I have an indepth experience of what it is like as a family member trying to cope with the side effects of the disease.
I am now in the very privileged position of caring for people living with dementia and I have to say it is thoroughly rewarding and I have lots of examples of really positive care. The Alziehmers society help so many people ever since i was 14 I have said I will do something to support them but it has taken until now for that to happen. Better late than never. Now the challenging part begins of raising money and getting fit enough to complete the trek. I am very grateful for all help i recieve however big or small.
