Story
I (Yadu) am currently taking a gap year and Andrei (the other one) is studying in University. We are going to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and decided this would be a wonderful opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause as well, ie Pratham.
We are funding our expedition ourselves. 100% of all donations go directly to Pratham, a brilliant NGO working in India trying to eradicate illiteracy in children.
It is estimated nearly 100 MILLION children cannot read in India and many live under the poverty line. Only education can equip them to break out of poverty and flourish. As little as £15 can give a child an education for an entire year!
You can donate in any major currency by clicking on the "donate" button at the top or by text (only in the UK as far as I can tell). Text JARO69 followed by the amount to 70070. E.g. "JARO69 £5".
Thank you.

Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. It stands at a whopping 19,341 ft and can take mountaineers upto 10 days to climb. Neither of us are real mountaineers nor have we ever climbed to such heights before and thus this is quite a personal challenge for us. We have also set our initial fundraising target to the height of the mountain in meteres. So thats 5895 GBP. If we surpass that then we want to try and raise the hieght of Kili in feet, so that would be 19,341 USD.
Imagine waiting for a bus, but not being able to tell which one will take you home. Imagine living in a high concentration HIV area, but not being able to understand the ad campaign that can protect you from the virus. Imagine your own children not being able to read the alphabet or count to 10. Now imagine the reality of 100 million children who are waiting to be given the chance to enjoy the basic pleasure and necessity of reading and writing.
Pratham is trying to rid India of this dystopian reality. Today the mission has expanded to 21 of India’s 28 states and is the largest non-governmental children's charity working to provide quality education to underprivileged children in rural and urban India.
Pratham's flagship program, Read India, aims to improve the reading and basic arithmetic skills of the children in the age group of 6-14 years in rural India. At its peak, in 2008-09, the campaign reached 33 million children across 19 states. It covered 305,000 out of the 600,000 villages of India and mobilized 450,000 volunteers. Over 600,000 teachers/ officials/ government workers have been trained in accelerated learning methodologies.
Pratham tells us that about 95% of all money donated to Pratham goes directly to the cause. For those of you who do not know this is extraordinary and only achieveable because of the vast economies of scale that Pratham utilizes. Pratham has been verified by many third party charity evaluators for efficieny and zero corruption. Visit http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=7676 for more information. (Pratham USA is a branch of Pratham and this website actually evaluates the entire foundation. Navigating the website you can also find reviews written for the charity by unaffiliated indivduals where Pratham scores 4.9/5.)
Please donate to help this brilliant cause!
Keep reading on for a little message from Andrei and for a small explanation given by JustGiving about how donating through this website works.
Thank you for reading on until the end.

A cliche by the other one because he's like that: Give a man to fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll eat forever.Every child has the potential to make the world a better place (for themselves and in itself). Help us give them a brighter future.
