Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Why should you donate?

Problems in third world countries can only get better with the help from generous donators like you. That is why my brother and I have decided to fundraise for a dedicated and accomplished charity called Harpenden Spotlight on Africa (a charity our family have supported for the last 12 years), to help areas affected by absolute poverty. To help raise funds we have decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in order to directly help the affected people in need of the money.

What is special about this Charity?

This charity sends 96% (the rest covers administrative costs) of funds raised directly to their team in Uganda, with everyone in the UK working for the charity volunteering their time to help achieve its' goals; these being: to help educate the future generation (who would be left to endure manual labour from a young age otherwise), provide clean and safe water to these communities, provide health improvements [through both training healthcare professionals and building a local clinic (turned emergency hospital)], and finally by helping them set up businesses and other income generating projects, in order to help them generate their own wealth, and sustain the local communities.

The Challenge?

Before we climb Mount Kilimanjaro we ourselves will be volunteering with their Ugandan team in a town called Mbale to help with the numerous projects going on there; such as a Tailor Workshop being built, further improvements to the Health Clinic, a School Hall in the planning, as just a few examples of ongoing projects. In terms of the climb, Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and surprisingly the tallest free-standing mountain in the world at 19,341 feet. Over 30,000 people climb it a year, with about 50% failing to reach the summit!!

Extra Information:

For every £1 given, 25p is added from Gift Aid (If you are a taxpayer) to the charity.

Please take some time to look at the few out of many Photos showing the charity's numerous accomplishments, the communities they help and the difference money from generous donators like yourselves make.
