Connect is a national charity for people living with aphasia (communication disability) which is often caused by stroke. Aphasia can strike anyone at any age and at any time. 1 in every 200 people in the UK lives with aphasia and each person experiences it differently. Some people cannot speak at all, some people have just a few words. It affects reading, writing and numbers. Aphasia can lead to lack of confidence, depression, social exclusion – and people can lose their connection with the world. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Our vision is a simple one, we want a world where people with aphasia can re-connect with life again. Find out more about how we do that at www.ukconnect.org

Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page!

In January I will be trekking up Kilimanjaro to raise money for my old friends at Connect. Hopefully the information below will show you just how much great work Connect do and how much the charity and I will appreciate your support.

Connect is a wonderful charity, working with people who are living with aphasia. Aphasia is a communication disability which usually occurs after stroke or brain injury. Every person with aphasia experiences it differently: some people cannot speak at all, some have just a few words, whilst others can no longer read, write or use numbers. Aphasia can make even everyday activities incredibly difficult.

People with aphasia directly influence Connect's work and are involved with the charity in numerous ways and at all levels. This collaborative approach makes sure that Connect's work is really effective.

Connect offer peer-led conversation groups, befriending services, and drop-in sessions in a number of places, as well as working with health care professionals and offering a wide range of publications. The work Connect does is central to helping to improve the lives of people with aphasia.

Any support you can offer is hugely appreciated. Connect could not do what they do without the generous donations they receive through challenges like this, and all the donations will certainly motivate me with my challenge!

I really appreciate all your support and any donations you can make.
