Participants: Kirstin Murray

Celebrating the birthday of Kirstin Murray

on 29 March 2022

We raise funds for all wards and departments at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, enhancing the experience of patients, their families and staff, over and above what NHS funding alone can deliver. Together we can make a real difference to local people when they need it most.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I know times are tough for everyone, I turn 30 next month and I have everything I need. I would love if anyone who is able to could donate something to Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Charity. Calderdale Hospital helped me through a difficult time and I would love them to receive some support for what they do. Please see my story below.

I started feeling ill on October 31st 2021 and tested positive for COVID-19. After 7 days of staying in bed and trying to persevere, my symptoms got worse and the fact I was almost 39 weeks pregnant started to worry us. We called 111 on 6th November for advice as my breathing was becoming more difficult and we were concerned for our little girl. An ambulance team was sent to our house where they noted my oxygen levels had dropped and they brought me to A&E for observations.

Late Sunday 7th things took a turn for the worse during the night and my breathing got so difficult. I was given a catheter and advised I would not be able to leave my bed and was put on oxygen.

Everything is fuzzy for what happened next. I remember lots of tests, needles and what helped me the most was lots of amazing doctors, nurses and staff in my room, all keeping me relaxed. I know one even stayed past his shift to ensure I understood what was going on.

I was informed on Monday 8th Morning that I would have to have an emergency C-Section as they could not treat me until our baby was delivered. I was given general anaesthetic and kept asleep until the day after my caesarean to help me recover. I was woken in ICU on Tuesday 9th where everything was surreal. I was on a ventilator and in pain but I was alive. I was shown images of my little girl, and advised she was doing well and was healthy.

I was not able to see her until I was better and was off Oxygen.

I cannot explain just how amazing, every person in Calderdale Hospital was. I was so scared on the Sunday night and Monday morning and sent my partner a message to say I love him, he would be a great dad and told him to remember that. When I awoke, I was so happy and felt so lucky that I was under the best care possible.

I would like to thank everyone in Calderdale Hospital for everything you did for us, from the paramedics looking after me, the A&E team, the respiratory team, the porters, the lady who took meal requests (thank you for being by my side when I broke down because I was afraid and I couldn't see my little girl as I was still on oxygen support), the maternity team, the theatre team, the ICU team and the NICU team who looked after our amazing daughter and kept my partner up to date on how Erin was doing through an app with images, messages and videos.

Calderdale Hospital made a scary experience bearable and the support they gave myself and my family will never be forgotten.

Thank you.
