Coming up to the start of November, there was a lot of talk at work around 'Movember' and many of the men decided to get on board with this to raise money for Men's mental health. Luckily, I am not in a position to grow my own moustache so it got me thinking of what challenge I could set myself for November.

2020 has been a year of real ups and downs for many. As someone who normally likes to stay fit an active through team sports, it has been a real blow to lose this not only as a form of exercise but also the social aspect. Two weeks of quarantining in lockdown (the first time round!) got my me very itchy to get back outside when it was safe to do so. It was around this time that I started running - something I had always considered a chore rather than a joy.

Fast forward 6 weeks and I ran my first half marathon (on my own and just plodding through the streets of Edinburgh) but it gave me a sense of achievement and also a realisation that running has given me time away from everything else. As the year has evolved it has thrown new challenges to us all but for running has continued to give me the break from it all. Despite this, motivation was dipping and thus came the idea of this challenge to keep me going through the initial winter months as I knew I would feel better for it and so far so good.

My aim is to run 5km, every 5 hours over 50 hours. Im not sure what will be worse - the cold, the lack of sleep, the tired legs or the hunger but I'm hoping determination and support from some friends on a few of the runs will see me through!

I never intended to run this for charity but after a few comments from friends I thought putting a page together - even if very last minute- could make a difference to even a few children. I absolutely love Christmas and feel fortunate that I have always been able to celebrate it but know that many aren't so lucky. This year will be even more difficult for many families which is why I have chosen to fundraise for cash for kids in line with their mission Christmas in the hope that it can add a little something to more families at this difficult time.

Any donation, big or small will be appreciated as hopefully it can help to spread some festive cheer to more people this Christmas

Kirsty xx
