We "stand in the gap" to transform the lives of young people.

Story

For the past 4 years, I have climbed a mountain, in a corset, to raise money for Against Breast Cancer. The corset and the recipient were chosen in line with my shop.

However, as I no longer own the shop, a whole host of other opportunities present themselves.

This year, I have decided to combine the climbs and take part in the three peaks challenge. Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Mount Snowdon. The aim is all three in 24 hours. Realistically I'm thinking it will be more like 27 hours. I'll be happy to complete it though, regardless of time!

Through each of the climbs my eldest Alexander has asked to join me. I've always said no. I now feel he is old enough and has a bit of experience, so am throwing him in at the deep end and he will be climbing all three with me, along me my trusty climbing side kick Fiona.

Because the climb, especially with a tight time frame is even more challenging than normal I've had a long hard think about costume. I needed something non restrictive, something that I can add or remove layers, depending on the weather without ruining it, that I can have 3 versions of and is suitable for both males and females. Consequently I've come up with the radical idea of dressing like a mountain climber!!

I've found it hard to think of a charity, until today when a conversation for a completely different reason provided me with the answer.

William, my youngest, has had a turbulent time in school the last couple of years.

I managed to secure support from Glow, part of Southend YMCA, who worked with William.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank them for the time they invested in him and give them a bit of support in return to be able to help other children, like William, when needed.

We would also like to thank Spectrum Vehicle Repairers for sponsoring us our transport and outfits for our adventure.

Southend YMCA enables vulnerable young people to rebuild confidence, increase employability and restore self-esteem. We provide supported housing, health & wellbeing project and education through volunteering, music and sport to effectively help thousands of young people a year across Essex.Put simply, we change young lives for the better. If you want to help make that happen, click donate and know that your donation will build a better future for young people most in need.
