Arthritis Research UK invest in breakthrough treatments, the best information and vital support for everyone affected by arthritis. By harnessing the power of exceptional science, they believe we can overcome the pain, isolation and fatigue arthritis causes, making everyday life better for all people with arthritis in the UK.

My drive to support this research is a personal one. Nearly 15 years ago my dad suddenly became ill with, what we later found out, was Vascullitis.

Vasculitis is a type of autoimmune disease, this means that your body's defense mechanisms aren't doing their normal job of fighting infections, but instead attack a healthy part of the body, causing inflammation.

Vasculitis can cause a range of symptoms and possible
complications. In dad’s case he nearly died a number of times, the illness has left him physically disabled, with memory problems and in constant severe pain.  But he is with us thanks to the incredible care he received and has continued to receive. 

Arthritis Research UK are funding research – right now –to
better understand what causes Vasculitis. The University of Cambridge are carrying out a large genetic study to investigate whether common differences that we all carry in our genes might predispose some people to developing the disease.

This research will mean individuals and their families will not have to go through what my dad and my family have gone through.
