When Ben was diagnosed with a significant hearing loss in both ears at birth, we were at a loss as to what this would mean for him and us going forward.

One of the very first people to come into our lives was Alison Holmans, a Teacher of the Deaf and Trustee of the charity, DELTA. Alison was truly inspirational and gave us the hope and confidence that Ben would grow up hearing, listening and talking. She introduced us to the wonderful people at DELTA and we participated in a week-long residential summer school - for free - where Ben was looked after by day and Jimmy and I attended seminars on a huge range of issues relating to deafness, how we could use the natural aural approach to bring Ben up speaking normally, using technology to the maximum, and how we should work with the education system to ensure he got the support he needed.

This early support was critical and we will be forever grateful. As many have witness, Ben is a happy, confident and very chatty lad!
